This training does NOT work on your own journey.
This training does NOT include opportunities for you to share your story.
This training requires participants to be able to step out of their personal narrative.
Emotional processing and validation are VERY important and we highly encourage both in your personal life, but it would take valuable instructional time away from the training if we catered to the participant’s personal needs . Our expectation for people who plan to work with traumatized individuals is that they have their own inner and outer resources to deal with whatever comes up in their life or in the training, during class time. If you need resources to manage feelings, please consider joining us at a later date when you feel you have more stress resistant (aren’t easily triggered). Has your work load been heavy? Do you have a lot going on in your life right now? Even if you consider yourself centered and grounded, the timing may make you vulnerable. We will NEVER ask you to visit your own story or to work through your inner work – this is NOT the time or place. If you have any questions, please call us to discuss.
Level I certification – Earth Element: Trauma Informed Yoga Teaching.
Earth Element is a stand-alone, advanced Yoga Teacher training course that trains Yoga professionals a trauma informed approach to teaching public Yoga classes in studios and community centers. It is also the foundation course for Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy Levels II & III certification. People with unresolved trauma use Yoga as part of their healing journey; some do not relate to the word “trauma” and are attending regular Yoga studio classes to manage their anxiety or stress level without an awareness of the potential of re-experiencing or other deleterious post-trauma effects that can surface during a somatic practice like Yoga.
‘A trauma informed approach can be implemented in any type of service setting or organization and is distinct from trauma-specific interventions or treatments that are designed specifically to address the consequences of trauma and to facilitate healing.’
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration(SAMHSA)
Our program provides:
1. Education about trauma, how widespread it is and an exploration of the role of a Yoga practice as a potential path for recovery.
2. Evaluation of what a sense of safety is; requirements and considerations of creating a safe space for a Yoga practice (different for everyone).
3. Didactic lectures and experiential exercises focused on recognition of signs and symptoms of trauma in students participating in a Yoga class.
4. Integration of knowledge about trauma into class sequencing, choice of language and other facets of teaching Trauma Informed public Yoga classes.
5. Facilitate a comprehensive examination of aspects of a Yoga class that:
a) have a potential to trigger or be problematic in other ways, and how to mitigate that potential.
b) provide traditional Yoga tools that foster self-regulation on demand.
6. Methods and procedures that are aimed at actively resisting re-traumatization of students with unresolved trauma.
Level 2
WATER ELEMENT
Prerequisites:
This training is designed to teach Yoga Therapy methods to Yoga Therapists and experienced Yoga teachers, allied health partners and mental health professionals presently working with, or who are interested in working with clients who suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder (PD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Substance Use Disorders, and/or acute cumulative stress. The focus of the training is to give participants practical applications of ancient, traditional Yoga techniques and modern therapies that train the body and mind to employ a natural system of self-regulation.
The methods we employ are not only rooted in the ancient techniques of Yoga but also in modern research in the fields of neuropsychology, stress physiology and medical biophysics. We explore the plethora of modern research devoted to the relationship between Yoga and the mind, and its role in treating trauma and stress related illness. The Polyvagal Nerve theory and Somathesis, and their application in treating acute stress, trauma and anxiety, provides us with the knowledge and skills to amplify a human’s innate ability to self-soothe, self-heal and eventually revive a natural self-regulation system, all through the practice of evidence informed yoga therapy protocols.
The focus of the training is to give participants practical applications of ancient, traditional Yoga techniques that train the body and mind to employ a natural system of self-regulation. Our methodology is rooted in ancient Yoga psychology, Yoga philosophy, and techniques which have been employed for millennia to deal with the stress and other disturbances of the mind.
